Re: Morning has broken

Hey @Snowie ,

Great to see you. Did you have ECT today?

Re: Morning has broken

Hi @tyme

Had ECT number 4 today. I think I am scheduled for 12 so slowly getting there

Re: Morning has broken

I don't know much about ECT. What does it actually do? @Snowie

(No pressure to answer)

Re: Morning has broken

Thanks @Snowie I hope ECT was ok today. 🩵💙

Uni does tend to stress me a lot @tyme but on the other hand it’s a good distraction at times so I’m trying to stick with it.

Working outside is relaxing especially if it’s a nice day. It’s been raining here today.

Re: Morning has broken

Fair enough @Eve7 .

I don't think I can do any more uni assignments. I remember the stress... every time an assignment was finished, you get another.

It was really nice here today. It will be sunny tomorrow too.

I can't wait until daylight savings!

Hope you get some pleasant days.

Any plans for the weekend?

I'm here if you need a chat.

Re: Morning has broken

@tyme

It produces an electrical current in the brain which causes brain cells to rapidly fire. It can cause electrical and chemical changes in your brain. Meant to improve these areas of the brain. You are asleep for it so dont remember anything. Used especially for people with depression when other things havent worked. I have had it a few times before and it has helped. Can have some side effects. I do get some short-term memory loss from it.

Sorry that's probably a simple version of it!!!

Re: Morning has broken

It's very interesting @Snowie . So once this happens, you need it regularly to keep those parts of the brain 'active'? Do you then need to have psychotherapy and actually practice skills to 'grow' that part of the brain?

I'm glad it makes a difference for you, despite the side effects.

Re: Morning has broken

@tyme I have in the past had 'maintenance' ect which is once per month. That has helped before but also not helped too. I think it has a lot to do with everything else happening in your life also.

For me still being on meds and still seeing my psych after/during treatment helps. I've never looked into whether or not it helps 'grow' that part of the brain. I guess it is different for each person.

Like anything each person seems to have a different experience.

Re: Morning has broken

From your explanation, my layman's understanding is that ECT 'fires' up parts of the brain that may not be active enough - these are the parts that are needed for more stable MH. Then, I'm thinking regular psychotherapy is needed to continue the work of 'growing' that part of the brain. @Snowie

As I said, that's my layman's interpretation lol.

I'm thinking along the lines of my MBT. Meds supported me to be stable enough to undergo MBT, but ultimately, the ongoing and lasting work was the MBT, not the meds. I feel the MBT targeted the parts of my brain that needed it, and once I was 'on a roll' to using that part, then Voila! I continued using it from then on??

Who knows? I'm only typing what my limited brain understands.

Main thing is that it does work for you to some extent.

There was a stage where it was recommended I have ECT, but I never went through with it.

Re: Morning has broken

Another wet and windy day here @tyme . I’m just taking a break from uni work and watching the football. It’s a close game so far .

Hello @Snowie are you watching the footy?
